Welcome to UK MIS
UK MIS was founded in 2008 by three specialist foot and ankle consultant orthopaedic surgeons; David Redfern, Joel Vernois & Stephen Bendall. These three surgeons founded the group in order to consolidate their interest in minimally invasive techniques of performing foot and ankle surgery. In particular, they have spent a lot of time developing and refining minimally invasive surgical techniques applied to the forefoot for problems such as bunions, hallux valgus and hallux rigidus.
So why is there so much interest in minimally invasive surgery? In most areas of surgery there has been a trend in recent years towards less invasive methods of performing surgical procedures. This has been driven by an acknowledgement that less invasive surgical techniques can frequently offer less risk for the patient, less post operative pain, faster rehabilitation, and shorter hospital stays. In many cases, these techniques have been made possible by advances in technology with ever more ‘high-tech’ instruments being produced. The pace of technological advancement is very rapid as we are all aware from our surroundings in day to day life.
